They sure don't make them look like this any more... thankfully. Can you imagine the stench in this place? 1895, I think its autumn, there are jackets and fingerless gloves. And well, a room full of dead animals and sea life.
This is why the FDA was created, its hard to imagine that this is actually food you would eat. Sure it might be nice to choose the duck that you want that day, or choose a lobster that's been drying in the corner. I suppose if that's all you had, then that's what you got. I only assume this was a winter place and not a summer place.
Anyway, editing this image, it had a strange distortion in it. Either that or that pole really does curve like that, in which case its a good idea not to linger for too long. I was able to straighten it out for the most part, but then add to rebuild the sides a bit.
The hardest part about this image was figuring out where the ducks and quails began and ended. Some were plucked, most had a head. The fish was also hard to locate, I think it was a fluke, or a fluke that I actually found it.
Check out the lighting in this place. Oil lamps, gas lamps, electric lamps, there is even some kind of pulley system that goes up to the next floor. Something to get tangled in when you enter. They had very tall ceilings back then, I'm pretty sure there is a 20 ft window behind him. While this was taken with a flash, most of this is naturally lit.
