Description
Colorized photo from 1906
Original title: Crawford street bridge
Location: Crawford street bridge, Providence RI
Its nice to see a bridge serve more than one function. In this case, it was made very wide (so wide that it became the widest bridge in the world in the 1980's). It was designed to cover the river. Because this river was used as a dumping ground, sewer, etc. It was really gross, so gross that the smell would make the finer gal's pass out.
Today they opened the bridge up, moved the river and made it a feature of the city.
I was able to find a few postcards, and the colors weren't anything remarkable. I copied some of them, a few buildings exist. And that one purple one, I made that color because I like that color. There was a ton of detail molding on it, I would be shocked if it wasn't colorful.
