Description
Colorized photo from 1937, Dec
Original Title: Gas Station
Location: 3rd and Washington, Minneapolis, Minnesota
It's hard to know why they took this image. The season is ugly, the car is interesting, but probably common then, though I suppose it could be because its this years model. I theorize that they liked the background and that's what attracted them.
Based on that thought, I chose a sunset on the mural, and not a plain blue sky, partly because the sky was bright in the original. And it would be more eye catching as a sunset.
I chose the timing of the day to be dusk. Not night, not day. The clock reads almost 4pm, and I looked up the location, date and time and found out the sun sets at 4:30. The original had a dark washed out sky, it was probably overcast or cloudy and kind of dark. The scene is rather dark. The lights or neon is not lit in the original. But I thought it would add something extra if I added lights, neon and so forth.
This location doesn't exist now, currently its an open parking lot, but that train shed on the left is still there. I was able to find all the advertisement items, but not the bill boards.
