Description
Between harvest seasons, we preserve things. Fruit and veggies grow best at different times of year, and I want them all year round, so we preserve things. Slice or mash up things and put them into jars. That's overly simplified but that is the end result.
Stockpiling is a good idea, so you can have nutrition year round. Pickles, jams, jellies and all sorts of things can be preserved. You can eat them or trade them.
