Colorized photo from 1917
Original Title: Navy Yard Torpedo Shop
Location: Washington DC
There were two images of this scene, each taken about 10 seconds apart maybe? I used the best part of each scene. I needed it to remove the white patches on the image, and used it to remove ghosts as well. It let me de-clutter the scene and get better views of people working.
These people are making torpedo launchers that mount on battleships. It allows them to launch torpedo's from the deck above the water. But I couldn't find any good pictures of them, and what they may look like without paint. So for the main pipes I went with a bit of rust and dark metal. I'm not sure what those white patches are, they might be how they mark things.
I couldn't find the under workings, so took a guess at what I would like to see them as. So I used red (which could be a primer), and brass, (since its salt air resistant). Mostly because it looks nice, and it allows you to look around the factory seeing the parts being made. They invented stainless steel in 1913, but I'm, not sure it was ready enough for something like this, plus they liked using brass back then.
They put a lot of trust in that wood floor. According to that odd hole on the right there is dirt under it, maybe some brick. Almost everyone is wearing overalls of some type. I saw a fire bell, but no fire extinguishers, and oddly I found one lone shoe. There were lights, but they were small and near the windows.
