Original Title: Lapping precision gage blocks
Location: Washington DC (probably)
The Bureau of standards create measurement devices of the highest tolerance. We use their standards of measure so everything we make is uniform and exact. They are the base standard.
These people are making gage blocks. Gage blocks are devices of an exact height, length or thickness. These machines are called lapping machines, basically polishing the final block so its within 0.000005 inches.
