It's still amazing to see even today, and it all still works like it did a 100 years ago. These are think tanks. Devices used like a super intelligent computer, they would turn valves, stoke the coals, and just sit back. The machine would tabulate the questions and feed them back answers that they could never have thought of themselves.
Today we use these in companies, not this version of course, this takes the space of a 2 story building, and uses thousands of gallons of water. It also creates a lot of smoke, and needs a dozen or more people to run it.
