Original Title: Unloading ore
Location: Conneaut, Ohio
This is where they transfer iron ore from boats, to trains, then to large piles. The crane is attached to a bucket, the bucket dips into the tank, then they take the ore and drop into into train cars on the left.
These particular machines are called Brownhoist's, named after the inventor Alexander E Brown, which created them in 1880. They replaced people doing this job by hand.
However these machines were replaced with Hulett machines, in 1898. They were larger and carried a lot more ore. But they were expensive to build and it took a while before the inventor could find a place that would be willing to build one. But they made one, and they used it till 1981.
