Original Title: Accident at the M.C.R.R Depot
Location: Detroit, MI, Third street
Early one morning, at 7:00 am, there was an accident. One person died, a few badly hurt. There was a small fire but it was put out.
A Michigan Central freight train, about a mile away at a switching station, thought a passenger train was going to hit them. Instead of stopping the train they chose to jump out of it. This train is now going out of control at a pretty good speed. It first found its way to a train shed, of which it went through and totally destroyed.
It then arrived at this station, flying through the stop at the end, tearing it out of the ground, and then launching the train into the building. It tore a hole 25 ft wide, and 3 floors collapsed above it.
An individual by the name of Conductor Haner, was working early that morning on some reports, when the train barreled through the wall. He was caught up in the debris, he found himself falling into the wreckage. He was pinned from all sides, his hand's were on his abdomen and his face was right next to the hot boiler. Steam was hissing out next to him, he couldn't move, couldn't call for help. The searched frantically for him for 20 min. They noticed a paper flapping and saw him some how, and rescued him. He did apparently survive that.
This building no longer stands, not because a train hit it, but because of a fire that happened in 1913, of which it burned the place down. It was replaced by a new building, the one that currently sits vacant.
