Colorized photo from 1908
Original Title Suburban Station
Location: Bay and Lewis Streets, Petoskey, MI
Trains started to lose their color as people didn't want to paint them as much, but I believe these trains did have some color, as it looks more like something left over from the Civil war, I painted it with that in mind.
The postcard from this place, showed the engines as black, but it doesn't look like it should be. Usually this configuration (4-4-0), they usually look like Choo Choo trains. The passenger cars had a reddish to brownish look, and it had an oak stripe down the middle. The post cards differed a little bit there.
The current season is probably summer, I saw a lot of open jackets. And the timing is around evening, there are late shadows. I chose a yellow to go with the center boards, but wanted some blue in there to keep it natural looking. Didn't want all eyes in the sky.
