Description
The Fokker Dr.I, commonly known as the Fokker Triplane, is one of the most iconic aircraft of World War I. Introduced in 1917, it was designed by Reinhold Platz and manufactured by the Dutch aviation company Fokker. The Dr.I gained fame as the aircraft flown by the legendary German ace Manfred von Richthofen, also known as the "Red Baron." Its distinctive three-wing design provided exceptional maneuverability, allowing pilots to outmaneuver Allied aircraft. Although its production was limited and it had some operational issues, the Fokker Dr.I played a significant role in the air battles of the Western Front, symbolizing the daring and innovation of early aerial combat.
The Dr stands for Dreidecker, which is Triplane in German
