Description
The Sopwith Pup, introduced in 1916, was a British single-seat biplane fighter aircraft used extensively during World War I. Renowned for its excellent maneuverability and ease of handling, the Pup quickly became a favorite among pilots. It was equipped with a 80 horsepower Le Rhone 9C rotary engine, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 111 mph (179 km/h). Armed with a single synchronized Vickers machine gun, the Sopwith Pup was highly effective in dogfights, gaining a reputation for outclassing German aircraft of the time. Its design influenced subsequent fighter aircraft, contributing significantly to the development of aerial combat tactics. The Sopwith Pup's legacy is marked by its role in establishing air superiority for the Allies during a critical period of the war.
