Late season snow, these robins are waiting to make out their break out moment when spring arrives, so they can be the first one out. But Spring hasn't come yet, so its best to bundle up until then.
Everyone dresses a little differently, there is no reason to be the same as everyone else. You be you, don't let people talk you into wearing something you don't like, everyone has their own tastes... So what if its hard to keep a top hat on when you fly, its why I stand instead.
