When Oliver was a kitten, the boy used to pull him around in an old pony cart. It had big wooden wheels and high sides, and though it was meant for a small horse, to Oliver, it was his own special carriage. The boy would tug it slowly over the yard, talking to him as Oliver curled up inside, enjoying the gentle sway of the ride.
Now Oliver was grown, and the cart sat forgotten in the dusty old shed. The boy had outgrown it, and no pony had been hitched to it in years. The wheels were stiff, the red paint faded. But Oliver still visited. He would jump inside, curling up on the worn wood, his tail flicking as he listened to the silence.
The shed smelled of old hay and memories. And as Oliver rested there, he could almost feel the cart moving again, almost hear the boy's voice, almost be a kitten once more.
