Description
At the edge of the Whispering Wood sat the Eggstone Cottages, a quiet row of round, egg-shaped homes built mostly for chickens who didn't like going too far from where they came from. They weren't just shaped like eggs for looks. To the chickens, it was the point. Why leave the egg when the egg is safe, warm, and has everything you need?
The chickens of Eggstone weren't wanderers. They liked their mossy porches, sunny garden spots, and little stone ovens that always smelled like cornbread. A few might peck their way down the lane to visit a neighbor or cluck at a passing squirrel, but they always came right back. Even the boldest hen rarely made it past the end of the hedge.
Some folks said they were enchanted chickens, smarter than average, maybe even helpful in their own way. They had a knack for knowing who needed a visit or which garden needed weeding, but they never stayed out long. Home was better. Home was shaped like where they began.
Inside the cottages, everything felt simple and soft, curved walls, warm light, and a sense that nothing needed to change. And that was just how the chickens liked it. After all, if you came from an egg, why wouldn't you want to live in one?
