Long ago, shoe shine stands would be in front of or inside of, barbershops. For under a dollar, you could get a hair cut, a shave and a shoeshine. Leaving the place dressed for success.
In those days however, everyone wore dress shoes, there were few sneakers and flip flops. As shoes became less dressier, shoe shines like these vanished. The shoeshine stand was a place where you can get the vibe of a city, a private eye could tip the guy to see what the goings on were all about. But even that was replaced with modern technology.
