Original Title: Steamer Tashmoo
Location: 151 W Jefferson Ave Detroit, MI 48226 (approx)
A little over a hundred years ago, steam ships were all the rage. People would gather by the hundred and jump aboard. It would be the highlight of any summer vacation. A slow lumbering speed that took about 2 hours. They went from Port Huron in Detroit to Tashmoo park (that's how the ship got its name).
Right now everyone is boarding. Coal is ready to be delivered, everyone is dressed up, as is the fashion of the day. And all are wearing hats, as if it was illegal not to wear one.

I just went over Ellis Island with my eighth grade students, and this reminded me of that. Very nice.
