This is the Chicago shipbuilding company. They built and repaired many ships over the years. Though by today's standards their methods were both curious and some what dangerous. OSHA would not approve I'm betting.
The ship we see here today, is the SS Sylvania, built by the West Bay City Ship Building company, and launched on March 18th 1905. It entered service on April 1905, then crashed into another ship on June 12th 1905. In fact over the years it crashed into a number of vessels. But in this case there was a mix up on the passing signals.
This ship had around another 6 accidents over the years, it was lengthened as well. The name changed 3 times from Sylvania to Philbin, back to Sylvania. Her last journey was on May 10th 1980, and later scrapped in 1983. Coincidentally, this company was also scrapped in 1983.
Their method of repair was to remove all the bad parts, leaving an interesting cross section of what they looked like inside. Piles of scrap metal litter the ground outside, and they are using cutting torches. You can see one manifold on the ground, connected to a half dozen, very long hoses, so they can remove parts. That yellow thing was a very large crane.
