Artist's Description
Colorized photo from 1942, May
Original title: Automobile store on 14th Street which has stock of frozen cars
Photographer: John Collier Jr.
Location: 1712 14th St NW, Washington DC
This is a showroom that used to sell new cars, but was forced to sell used cars. During WW2, they had to ration out new cars to essential workers. There was a limited amount of new cars, as car factories had to make transportation for the war.
This dealership used to sell Desota's, and a few are. I chose colors from their paint swatches, as most of these cars look the same to me. I also have to note I hate doing reflections...
The building here still exists, built in the 1900's, the room itself I believe was from the 1930's, as the lamps are Art Deco, made to look like little buildings. There is a heater on that sign board that looks like a huge toaster.
About Mike Savad
My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like. My art is inspired by Norman Rockwell and Paintings from the time of the Renaissance. Be sure to visit my Scene in Color section. I expertly restore and colorize black and white images. See the past come alive with color. Each image is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, colors are researched and shaded in. Images are designed to coordinate with the rest of my collection. The past was far more colorful than you would have imagined. Want something fun to do? Sometimes I hide...
