Description
Colorized photo 1925
Original title: Laurel Speedway's board track.
Location: Intersection of 197 & 198, Baltimore MD
This is the original location of the Laurel speedway, an all wood race track.
The original image had a severe slant on it, and it was hard to know what was level, so I turned it back quite a bit, and it seems better. The entire race track sits at a 45 deg angle.
I was actually able to find 1 or 2 of the original cars, that yellow one on the right is still around. The others I guessed based on colors they used at the time.
The track is made of wood, they lasted only 2 years, and splinters were always flying off, I decided that the wood would probably be on the yellow side, and pretty fresh.
You'll note there are no roll cages, no helmets, no seat belts. spectators were trapped on the inner ring with their cars, all behind a thin chain link fence.
