Original title: White Tavern hamburger stand was the popular place in Amsterdam, NY
Location: Corner of E Main St and Church St, Amsterdam, NY
The White tower restaurant was a hamburger chain from around 1920-1970 or so, though there are still a few around. This one was located in Amsterdam, NY.
It was a place where you could buy a bagful of hamburgers for a low price. If this sounds familiar to you, its because they took the idea from another restaurant of a similar design. Their main ploy was how clean everything was. The building was white, dressed in an art deco theme with a turquoise and chrome finish. The inside was white and the waitresses had to wear nurses uniforms to create that clean sanitary look.
The location of this place is now totally gone, in fact many of the buildings, about half, are no longer standing. All we have are the memories.
