Description
Colorized photo from 1905
Original Title: Unloading oyster luggers
Photographer: Detroit publishing
Location: Pratt St & Light St, Baltimore MD
The Chesapeake bay area is known for large juicy oysters that are clean, people fished for them for a very long time, many hundreds of years. During the 1800s, there were oyster wars, people would either steal them or take over areas. For a while they over fished, they never returned the shells to the water; it seems that if you don't do that, the other shells don't have anything to attach to.
The image itself has a color postcard to go with it, but I didn't like the colors. It was very dark, hard to look at, I brightened it up. The wheels I normally make yellow or green when it looks like that, I made red to reflect the postcard, I think it looks pretty good in red.
I don't like colorizing rope, its not really that fun.
The water, while I added some blue, its really mucky, you can see the filth with stuff sitting on that filth, like a can.
Check out that one guy in the green pants behind the wagon, his clothes are very ripped. They really did wear suits like normal clothing.
