Artist's Description
Colorized photo from 1906
Original Title: The Island house, Druid Hill Park
Photographer: Detroit Publishing
Location: 900 Druid Park Lake Dr., Baltimore MD
Druid Hill Park is one of the first large public parks in America. It was Baltimore's first large park, and its actually the third oldest park in the US.
The park is 745 acres and was created some 200 years ago. In 1863 they built their own reservoir, it wasn't until 1871 before it was completed. It was 55 acres long, 30 ft deep, and had 429 million gallons of water in it. There is also the Maryland Zoo, which was previously known as the Baltimore Zoo.
The building before us was called The Island House. It should be located on the center island in Boat Lake. It was used so ladies could change. But into what I don't know. You could only get there by boat, so unless it was swimwear, I can't imagine why they would need it. During the winter months people ice skated on this lake.
Fun...
About Mike Savad
My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like. My art is inspired by Norman Rockwell and Paintings from the time of the Renaissance. Be sure to visit my Scene in Color section. I expertly restore and colorize black and white images. See the past come alive with color. Each image is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, colors are researched and shaded in. Images are designed to coordinate with the rest of my collection. The past was far more colorful than you would have imagined. Want something fun to do? Sometimes I hide...
