Description
Colorized photo from 1886
Original title: Fish Alley
Location: Chinatown, San Francisco
Near the wharf's in San Francisco, Chinatown, they sold fish. This area here is known as fish alley, they obviously sold fresh fish, ducks, and what looks like fresh eggs.
The locals know this street as "the street of virtuous harmony". To the outsiders however, it was not so virtuous. You see, besides the dead fish smell, the streets were always wet. It was a combination of horse manure and people spitting on said manure. That would cause it to get moldy and slimy. This moisture would create a fog that always seemed to be in the are.
