As they say, if you do good work, you should always sign it. And that is what one 23 year old Alphie Michaud did when I assume he tarred the seams of the roof. It way up there, its not like anyone will see it. The 1940 census showed he and his 17 year old brother Freddie were pinsetters at the bowling alley that was just up the street (the yellow building). I guess he had a bit too much free time.
This is known as Main Street, but in reality its name is Sweden Street, a rather old street going back to at least the late 1800's. The street was named after Swedish immigrants who settles and developed the region.
I find this image fascinating, that no matter how many people are there to work, only two are actually doing the job, the other 10 are watching. Just like today.
