As they say, if you do good work, you should always sign it. And that is what one 23 year old Alphie Michaud did when I assume he tarred the seams of the roof. It way up there, its not like anyone will see it. The 1940 census showed he and his 17 year old brother Freddie were pinsetters at the bowling alley that was just up the street (the yellow building). I guess he had a bit too much free time.
This is known as Main Street, but in reality its name is Sweden Street, a rather old street going back to at least the late 1800's. The street was named after Swedish immigrants who settlers and developed the region.
I find this image fascinating, that no matter how many people are there to work, only two are actually doing the job, the other 10 are watching. Just like today.
I searched so hard to find this street, but couldn't. Someone had a postcard of this location taken from the other side of the street, and nailed the street for me. It didn't help they called it Main street. For colors, I chose 1910-1920 colors for the houses, many of these buildings showed up in a postcard from the 1890's. Today this location has none of these buildings. The only thing you can really recognize is the church which is behind us on the left. You can't see it in this picture, but it's there.
