Colorized photo from 1941
Original title: Lunch wagon for Negroes
Photographer: Edwin Rosskam
Location: Chicago, IL, South side
When I saw this image I said, the bus has to be orange, otherwise it wouldn't stand out well enough. But as it turns out, this was a 1920, Yellow Coach bus, Model Y, parlor coach, and it was orange, or at least that one postcard I found was orange. So that worked out great. I left he car black because I didn't want it to stand out that much.
The guy had a set of wood burning stoves standing on dirt. What happened when it rained and went to mud, or simply put the fire out, I don't know. I didn't see a place to keep the food cool either, but there was a truck in the back, so maybe he had a cooler. There were a few images of this location, that's how I know what was back there. It must have been really hard in the winter.
