Chicago, Illinois - In 1871, there was a great fire, much of Chicago was burned to the ground. Most of the buildings were constructed from wood, and thus, burned really well. There wasn't much left to the old city. Since then everything was made from concrete and steel. The lesson wasn't forgotten, and to this day buildings for the most part are made from materials that don't easily burn. The city continues to grow.
