Artist's Description
Colorized photo from 1900 Sept 1
Original Title: Madison St east from Fifth Ave
Location: 199 W Madison St, Chicago, Illinois
Stepping back in time allows one to see what the past was like. On this block we see colorful stores, old buildings, restaurants, and all sorts of people shopping. Today this location is nothing but bland drab buildings that you probably never gave a second glance at.
This image was taken from 5th street. You never heard of it? Today its known as Wells St, named after Billy Wells, a hero from the war of 1812. But over the years it became rundown, and it wasn't befitting for a person like him. So they changed it to 5th in 1870, but then changed it back to Wells in 1916.
This was also a location that was destroyed in the great fire of 1871, but it was quickly rebuilt by 1873, of many of these buildings are probably from.
The sign above was for a news paper that ran from 1893 to 1901.
About Mike Savad
My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like. My art is inspired by Norman Rockwell and Paintings from the time of the Renaissance. Be sure to visit my Scene in Color section. I expertly restore and colorize black and white images. See the past come alive with color. Each image is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, colors are researched and shaded in. Images are designed to coordinate with the rest of my collection. The past was far more colorful than you would have imagined. Want something fun to do? Sometimes I hide...
