When I saw this one I thought, I have to make this one. Snow is a pain to colorize, because its too easy to color the white parts, where they have to be white. But I figured out methods that worked on this.
Normally when I make images, I like to see them pop. But winter has a dulling down effect on things, and that's what I wanted here. Something that looked cold and bleak. It doesn't pop off the screen when casually glanced, but it still pulls you in.
I lit up the lights to help the eye move down the street, and though they didn't have their headlights on, they really should, its safer, but its the 1940's and I doubt they even have a seat belt. I lit them because it adds more life to the scene. And you can see who is driving and who is parked.
I will admit that I accidentally obliterated the Wrigley building when adding thick clouds. Its not really missed, not by me anyway, since the subject is about the cars and the snow.
There was a weird vanin the middle, the third one in, I have no idea what it is. Its too small to be a bus, too modern to be a van, but it looked like a hippie wagon, so I colored in period colors, but I'm still not sure what it is.
Any colors I chose came from the buildings themselves, most are still standing. I was able to ID the cars, so I was able to get colors from those samples. I also added some brown snow in the middle, and was ever so tempted to add a bit of yellow in spots. But I didn't.
