Description
Colorized photo from 1941, April
Original title: Kitchenette apartments
Photographer: Russell Lee
Location: 5000 S King Dr Chicago, Illinois
There was no information at all about this building, its as if it never existed. The photographer simply recorded what he saw and in this case, this building was described as a place they rented to Negro's.
It was a really nice looking building though, seemed to have a nice sense of community, wasn't run down, but it did look quite old. My guess is when it first opened it was a place for richer people, hard to know, everything was fancier back in the day.
The photo was poorly made. Very dull, lacked contrast and detail, it took a bit of skill to bring out the detail. I chose Chicago brick, I wanted a pink look, something fun and cheerful. It would also match that building on the right of it which has a similar tone. Chicago once made its own brick, and all their streets are covered in Chicago pavers, they also made buildings.
There are a few curious perspective monopolizes, the curious one legged people. Both that little girl and a guy have a leg missing. It's not blurred out, I think its either heredity, or they are perfectly timed and aligned with the other one. Probably made it hard to go places.
