Life was certainly lively back in the day. Movies on one side, Broadway plays on the other. Taxi's all over the place. Even in the rain people would come to see what's going on at night. And you knew whatever they were playing, it was safe. During this time the city said they weren't allowed to show anything vulgar. If you wanted to see something vulgar you would have to go to the strip-tease places on West Madison.
Today this scene looks half the same, the Chicago theater on the left is still there and in operation. State Lake, was gutted in the 1980's, the building is the same but the inside is different. Quite a few theaters are gone from this street, from this vantage anyway. There was also a bus station just around the other block, some of those buses are probably on there way now.
About Mike Savad
My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like. My art is inspired by Norman Rockwell and Paintings from the time of the Renaissance. Be sure to visit my Scene in Color section. I expertly restore and colorize black and white images. See the past come alive with color. Each image is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, colors are researched and shaded in. Images are designed to coordinate with the rest of my collection. The past was far more colorful than you would have imagined. Want something fun to do? Sometimes I hide...
