Original title: The Arcade

Location: 441 Vine Street (about)
This was the Emery Arcade, it was a strip of stores that stretched from Vine St to Race St, between 4th and 5th St, right down the middle. It was enclosed to keep out the rain, and filled with enough lights, that they probably saw it from space. It really does look like they got a good deal on the lights, none of them seem to match and there are lots of them.
Anyway, the arcade stretches 400ft long and was 40ft tall, it had a glass enclosure and was originally built in 1877 by the Emery Brothers. During its day it was considered one of the largest arcade's in the world. As a side note if you were wondering, an arcade comes from Latin, meaning Arc, as in a corridor that has an arch of some kind over your head. How it stuck to video game's I'm not sure.
As you can see there were a variety of stores. There is an ice cream shop, which is the perfect place to wait for your mandolin to be restrung. And there is a great number of chiropodists, which are chiropractors that focus on the feet. If you look carefully on the upper right you'll see a big foot on the wall. You can get a mani-pedi or get your laundry done.
This arcade is no longer here, it was razed in 1929 to make room for Carew tower, as it happens the Emery brothers owned that too. They then created a new arcade and that's still in use today.
