Original title: The Arcade

Location: 441 Vine Street (about)
This was the Emery Arcade, which was connected to the Emery Hotel. It was located between Vine St and Race St & 4th and 5th street, right down the middle.
The black and white version just doesn't show all the things that are hidden in here. The hundreds of lights on the ceiling, all those signs, the ghosts. When I began I always curse myself by saying this one will be easy. But these old images always have a ton of detail in them.
I was surprised on the sheer amount of signs that were hidden in this. Most of them have to do with feet, and I can only assume that those laced up boots really messed your feet up. I think there are like 3 or 4 stores all in walking distance that are foot related.
There is at least one laundry place, and I would like to see what that looked like then. Was it a big machine you had to crank yourself? Or was there a motor of some kind? Can you imagine that one dress would fill one basket?
The hardest part of this was managing the signs and the reflection. The upper half of the window had reflections of the from about 2-3 stores down. I had to make guide lines to show where each thing connected, it was hard to tell in some spots. A lot of these are reflections of reflections. What made it confusing was that because of the reflections we could see around some of the signs. We can also see what is behind the window, and keeping the glare was important here.
For the colors, there were two postcards, each looked different but had a basic theme that the room was a beige yellow color. They both ignored the sign colors and I don't think either one of them had all the pendant lights.
Now those pendant lights, I can assume they were either celebrating something. Or they were showing off the light bulb as an invention. There were a lot and they were colored. I was able to find a box of Christmas lights from 1903, and they had like 12 colors. Of which I made a copy gray and compared the tone to these and these were the ones that matched right.
The year range was from 1900-1915, I think it was around Valentines day. There are hearts in the ice cream window. I think the year was closer to 1900 as there are a ton of weird lights, some look like gas converts. You can see a few ghosts down the hall, just barely can you see two boys on the right, and a few ladies at the end.
