Original Title: Repairing streetcar tracks
Location: Corner of 14th & G St NW
Originally, they used streetcars pulled by horses, as electricity was invented, a new kind of car was made, but they didn't like overhead wires. Washington insisted that the wires should be buried underground.
However, this created other problems, snow, water, dirt would get in and destroy the cables, so they needed to be kept up constantly. Which meant they had to close streets and dig up the cement and replace wires, and what looks like sections of track.
But they couldn't stop the service, that had to go on, flagmen would have to stop that traffic so they wouldn't be killed in the process. As you can see a group of them is under the tracks.
I don't see any cranes, so I guess they moved the pieces by hand?
