Description
Colorized photo from 1905
Original title: The Main street
Photographer: Detroit Publishing
Location: 7200 Main St, Mackinac Island, MI
This is Main St, a street that really hasn't changed a whole lot for over a 100 years. Most of these buildings are intact, the poles are gone, they paved it, and Persian rugs were replaced by fudge stores.
I based some of the colors on postcards that I found, but they varied a lot. Partly because these buildings kept changing colors over the years. I used colors they use right now, mostly bright pastel colors, figuring they are copying the colors they had at this time. And a few I fudged in, the hotel might not have had the extra color, and that blue how was a variety of colors according to the postcards.
I just don't get what they did with the rug once they got it. And why was it all auction based? There is a fudge store way in the back of this, so now you can feel at home.
The only real difference you'll see comparing this to today's photos, is that now there are a lot of bikes on the roads. Just unlocked and sitting there. They have no other transportation other than horse carts, cars are outlawed there.
