I've always loved the busy pictures, nothing in particular to focus on, just a lot of stuff to look at. All the wagons, trying to ID the fruit, Wondering who they sell all those apples too when they all seem to sell apples. I have to wonder what that giant bottle is on the left in the background. Or what that ghost writing says on the wall, or why they didn't paint over it better. Or if the sign painter who made both those ads were the same people because the both used that weird half circle.
This is Jacques Cartier Square, named in 1847 after the explorer who claimed Canada for France in 1535. The square is a part of Old Montreal which today is an historic neighborhood. That statue in the distance is Nelson's column which was erected in 1809.
Back in the early days, this area was used as a trading post, where local farmers could sell their wares to others. A busy place, filled with barrels and burlap sacks. Local stores align the streets on the sides when the wagons weren't in town, so even when they weren't selling produce there was something to buy. There is a large bottle of some kind in the background on the left.
The image is so alive, you can almost smell the dust in the air.
