Description
Colorized photo from 1902
Original title: Carondelet Street
Photographer: Detroit Publishing
Location 739 Canal St
The original image had a sun in the corner, first time I've seen that, but while I tried to maintain the look at the end, it looked kind of stupid and cloned it out. It was more distracting then anything else. Looks more like a meteor is about to strike.
I'm always amazed at the detail level on these old images. You can see the texture of the white blouses in the window. The molding around the windows way in the back, even two tiny humans in the window of that building in the rear.
There was a lot of shadow in the porch area. Took a while to extract the detail from there, I got a part of it. Enough to see that there is a lady buying something there.
I found two postcards, each with slightly different coloring of things. They cut out the building on the left entirely. Probably because its a huge advertisement and doesn't add anything or attract others to want to visit the place. The trolley was red in both of them, and while the original ones are green, and there is a green on today on this line, I really think this is red. At the very least it looks nice in red.
The hardest part in making this, was coloring in the stained glass, each floor had its own designs, and each had to be colored in.
