Original Title: Jewish market on the East Side, New York, NY
Location: Lower East Side near Elizabeth St.
Along this street, is where the Jewish immigrants lived. On a daily basis they would sell their goods. It was said that you could get anything from these street vendors. Due to fact that there were no refrigerators in those days people would buy fresh every day, and that's what they ate for that day.
The marketplace was also where people socialized. The tenements they were living in, were really run down, and not really a place anyone wanted to loaf around in. So people talked while they shopped. The people living here were rather poor and it really shows, many have ripped clothing or appear rather soiled. The people out of town are easy to spot, simply due to how clean they look. It was a hard life in those days to make a living.
