Original Title: Macy's New York
Location: 151 West 34th St.
This is Macy's Department store, it was the largest store in its time, and its still quite large even today (much larger than this structure in this image). The store was dedicated in selling items at an affordable price to anyone.
This building was built in 1902, at the time RH Macy had a smaller store, elsewhere in New York. When he bought this land, he agreed using a verbal agreement. At the same time another business man, Seigal Cooper, a competitor) was making a bid for a part of the land, that corner property.
Some how he was able to get that corner plot, and told Macy that he would give him that spot, if he gave him the old location of the original store. Macy said, nope, and built his store around that corner. And later on Cooper put up a building of his own, the one that stands there today. Macy did rent billboard space, and covered it up in signs.
Fun facts: This was the first store that had escalators, they were made of wood, and they still use them today, a 100 years later. On the 9th floor, they sold airplanes, houses, camping equipment, and even chickens, they call it their exhibition floor.
