Original Title: Franklin St
Photographer: Detroit Publishing
Location: 451 N Franklin St, Tampa, FL
This is Franklin St, it has a record number of firsts. It was the first street to get lined with electric lights, that was in 1887. It was the first street in the city to get paved. Tampa's firs street car was a steam powered contraption that pulled passenger cars like a train, and it ran down this street first. However by 1900, electric streetcars are all you saw. They laid 21 miles of track, connecting downtown to Ybor, West Tampa, Sulphur Springs and Ballast Point.
The street has changed considerably over they years, many of these buildings don't exist today. The cross street is Kennedy Blvd (or otherwise known as Lafayette, in those days). On the right you can see the edge of Lykes gaslight park.
This is how the street used to look, today its full of tall buildings and parking garages, but that park is still there.
My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like. My art is inspired by Norman Rockwell and Paintings from the time of the Renaissance. Be sure to visit my Scene in Color section. I expertly restore and colorize black and white images. See the past come alive with color. Each image is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, colors are researched and shaded in. Images are designed to coordinate with the rest of my collection. The past was far more colorful than you would have imagined. Want something fun to do? Sometimes I hide...
