Description
Younger folk probably don't know what this thing is. And I kind of know because I have seen them before. This is a fire box, before everyone had cell phones, or even pay phones, they had fire boxes. If you saw a fire, you would open the door, pull the lever, a light would turn on, and a call would be made to the fire department. In those days people were a little more honest, they probably didn't pull them for fun like they would know.

My sister in law just had one redone for my brother. He has been a fireman for 40 years.. She even found the sheet that listed where all the boxes were located. You have some very nice images. Good luck!

My dad inherited this firebox from his dad after he passed away last month. He was a fireman for 47 years, 34 years of that spent as the fire chief of his town where my dad grew up. It makes me think of my grandfather with such great pride and obviously, the loss is still fresh so I feel sad when I look at this too.
