This is the Westfield Hook & Ladder company No. 1 was formed in 1875, later on the Bucket & Engine company was formed in 1881, and Empire Engine Company No.2 was formed in 1883. Finally the Westfield Fire Department was formed then as well.
This building was built in 1911, it's considered the current headquarters, its located on 405 North Ave West, in Westfield, NJ. It was designed by Charles H Darsh in a "Moorish" style built on land purchased in 1887 for $450 (about $15,000 today). Costing a total of $23,000 to complete, the new building originally contained seven horse stalls, a stable area, and space for apparatus. The building has been modified over the years, its basic architecture remains the same. It became a historic landmark in 1980.
