Proper lubrication was crucial to reduce wear and tear on the trucks' engines, joints, and axles, minimizing downtime and maintaining efficient delivery schedules. Without adequate lubrication, trucks could suffer breakdowns, leading to delays and costly repairs.
The Davidson Transfer and Storage Company, based in Baltimore, was once a major player in the moving and logistics industry. It operated for over 85 years, specializing in both general and special commodities, export packing, and storage services. However, by the early 1980s, the company had to shut down its general commodities division due to financial challenges brought on by deregulation in the trucking industry, which caused an "erosion of rates" and reduced profitability. Other parts of the company, including storage and specialty services, continued to operate.
