Small town life, where everyone knows each other's names and they all hang out at the same time talking about stuff. I bet the oldest person there, remembers being the age of that child and they sat around talking about stuff too.
You get an overall sense of togetherness, or boredness, one of those two. I bet its really exciting when a car pulls up to get gas. Those guys would have something to talk about for days after.
