This kitchen is from one of the 1912 renovations of the historic Hotel Baur en Ville, now known as the Mandarin Oriental Savoy Zurich. The hotel was originally established on December 24, 1838, by Austrian entrepreneur Johannes Baur and was Zurich's first true hotel, introducing the term "Hotel" to the city.
Located on Paradeplatz, the hotel has been a key part of Zurich's hospitality scene for generations, hosting famous guests like Charles Dickens, Richard Wagner, Marlene Dietrich, and Grace Kelly. It also played a role in history when it hosted the signing of the Treaty of Zurich in 1859, which ended the Second Italian War of Independence.
The 1912 renovation brought updates not just to the architecture but also to the kitchen, showcasing a love for the latest gadgets of the time. This passion for innovation continued through the years, leading to its most recent transformation.
In 2023, after an extensive renovation, the hotel reopened as the Mandarin Oriental Savoy Zurich. The redesign preserved its historic charm while adding modern touches, featuring 80 stylish rooms and suites with wood, leather, and velvet accents. Guests can enjoy gourmet dining, a bar with panoramic views, and a signature afternoon tea service.
Situated in the heart of Zurich's financial district and luxury shopping area, the hotel remains a landmark, blending its rich history with contemporary elegance.
