Description
Colorized photo from 1943
Original title: Lifting an engine for wheeling
Photographer: Jack Delano
Location: 777 1st St SW, Albuquerque, NM
I made another version of this, called "danger from above". This one is a continuation of that one, as its the same locomotive. I think this is a different spot in the facility however.
The photograph was shot at a weird angle. I tried to straighten it, but then it looked stupid, so I went back to the original and kept the angle for "drama".
This is the Locomotive repair shop in Albuquerque New Mexico, they specialized in repairing, replacing parts, pulling engines apart and just rebuilding them. To replace the wheels for example, they would simply lift this 350,000 pound engine up and off the wheels.
