Original Title: Tool room of the National Cash Register Co.
Location: Dayton, OH
National Cash Register created those pretty brass registers you see in most stores from the past. This is their factory, or at least of the floors, they had many people working for them. They started in 1884.
The company was very good to its workers. Women workers were provided free coffee and soup for lunch. People that have to work a machine all had chairs with backs, instead of a common stool (these people here use stools though, probably because of mobility). They provided indoor bathrooms, and plenty of ventilation throughout the building. They even had their own doctor clinic to treat people if they got hurt. This is just a guess, but they probably got hurt often, safe machines didn't quite exist yet.
