Description
In its day, a belt would have been connected to the wheels on the ceiling, driving the lathe. This one is missing its belt, but it's hard to notice as today's lathes look similar. A machinist would work by window light and a few desk or overhead lamps for extra illumination. It was fortunate to have a sunny day like this. Many shops back then had skylights in the ceiling, providing ample light, unless it was dark outside.
