Description
Colorized photo from 1893
Original title: US Army Ordinance Dept Exhibit at the World's Columbian Exposition
Photographer: Unknown
Location: Chicago, IL
This was just one of the 65,000 exhibits they had in the Columbian Exposition in 1893. Located in the Government building, this was the Ordnance Department's exhibit.
They set up an elaborate display of lathes and other tools used in making guns and cannons. You can see rifle stock on the walls, a squashing machine on the far right and an assortment of other tools. All the belts are connected so I would imagine they would run it from time to time as a demonstration.
You can see other random things in cases such as swords, an oak tree stump? Some glass vases and a number of artworks in the background.
